A detailed guide to managing Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM), Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) in Tally ERP.

1. Managing Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) in Tally ERP

The Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) applies to certain goods and services where the recipient, rather than the supplier, pays the GST. Here’s how to configure and use RCM in Tally ERP.

Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up RCM

  1. Enable RCM in Tally:
    • Go to Gateway of Tally > F11: Features > Statutory & Taxation.
    • Enable GST and Set/alter GST details.
    • In the GST details screen, enable Reverse Charge.
  2. Create a Ledger for RCM Purchases:
    • Go to Accounts Info > Ledgers > Create.
    • Create a ledger under Purchase Accounts for RCM-specific purchases.
    • Set Is GST Applicable to Applicable and enable Reverse Charge.
  3. Recording RCM Transactions:
    • In Accounting Vouchers, go to Purchase.
    • Select the RCM ledger and enter the purchase details.
    • The system will calculate GST under RCM, reflecting it in your reports as an RCM tax liability.
  4. Recording Payment of RCM Tax:
    • Go to Payment Voucher > select GST Tax Ledger.
    • Record the payment, reflecting it as a liability settled in the GST returns.

2. Managing Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) in Tally ERP

TDS is deducted at a specified rate on various types of payments, such as contractor fees, rent, and professional services. Here’s how to configure TDS in Tally ERP.

Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up TDS

  1. Enable TDS in Tally:

    • Go to Accounts Info > Ledgers > Create.
    • Create a TDS Ledger under Duties & Taxes.
    • Specify Nature of Payment (e.g., Contractor, Rent), select TDS as the type, and input the applicable TDS percentage.
  3. Create TDS Party Ledgers:
    • Go to Accounts Info > Ledgers > Create.
    • For each party requiring TDS deduction, specify Is TDS Deductible as Yes, and select the relevant TDS rate.
  4. Recording TDS Transactions:
    • In Accounting Vouchers > Payment:
      • Select the TDS ledger and record the payment with TDS deducted.
    • Tally will automatically calculate the TDS amount based on the configured rate and update it in TDS reports.
  5. Generating TDS Reports:
    • Go to Display > Statutory Reports > TDS Reports to view TDS Payable and TDS Challan for filing returns.

3. Managing Tax Collected at Source (TCS) in Tally ERP

  3. Configure TCS in Stock Items:
    • Go to Inventory Info > Stock Items > Alter.
    • Enable Is TCS Applicable and select the TCS nature of goods.
  4. Recording TCS in Sales Transactions:
    • In Accounting Vouchers > Sales:
      • Select the item and TCS will be calculated based on the configured rate.
      • Record the sale, and Tally will apply TCS to the total amount.
  5. Generating TCS Reports:
    • Go to Display > Statutory Reports > TCS Reports.
    • Review TCS Collected and TCS Payable reports to facilitate tax compliance.

Tips for Managing RCM, TDS, and TCS in Tally ERP

  • Automate Compliance: Enabling these features ensures Tally ERP automatically calculates taxes, minimizing manual errors.
  • Regular Review: Periodically review statutory reports for RCM, TDS, and TCS to ensure all entries are accurate.
  • Update Tax Rates: Regularly update TDS/TCS rates in Tally ERP as per government notifications for accurate tax calculations.

This setup enables businesses to manage their RCM, TDS, and TCS obligations seamlessly within Tally ERP, ensuring compliance with Indian tax regulations.
